According to legal documents filed in 2019, the Marvel star’s ex claimed he was under the influence of alcohol and drugs when he allegedly shoved a gun in his mouth and threatened to kill himself.
Pacheco also alleges Renner told people at a nightclub he wanted to kill her as he “could not deal with her anymore, and he just wanted her gone,” TMZ reported at the time.
The Hawkeye actor has vehemently denied the allegations and rubbished the reports as “nonsense” in a new interview with Men’s Health.
“I don’t respond publicly or privately to nonsense,” Renner said when asked about the claims.
“It only empowers it… If you respond to it, you give it gas. I don’t fuel s–t fires. I just don’t do it. I refuse to.”
According to the magazine, Disney considered dropping Renner from their Marvel line-up but ultimately decided to keep him on the books.
Renner and Pacheco divorced in 2014 after 10 months of marriage and share joint custody of their seven-year-old daughter, Ava.
Pacheco cited Renner’s “ongoing substance abuse” in a court filing and claimed he verbally and emotionally abused her in 2015, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Renner denied the claims and said his ex-wife was unstable and was simply looking for a “money grab” during the ex-couple’s bitter custody battle.
In 2020, the Avengers star requested to lower his child support payments during the coronavirus pandemic and alleged Pacheco was using his $30,000 monthly payments as a “slush fund”.
After his daughter’s birth in 2013, Renner says he grew sick of flying across the Atlantic to see Ava every weekend and negotiated with Marvel for more time off.
The publication said while people close to Renner warned he may get fired, he didn’t weaken his stance.
“I said, ‘Fine, recast me. I’m going to be here with my daughter.’ It was pretty gnarly,” Renner recalled.
